@angstotheclown FYI I'm a vegetarian and I know about high fructose corn syrup and MSG. I will never be a product of the NWO. It's what you believe in is what's important. So I've heard all the stick. People need to get away from the brainwashing in the music and movies. That's the majority. America needs to get back to the values and standards as a Christian nation. That's what America was founded on in the first place

Independent films today are generally defined as American films financed and distributed by sources outside today's Big Six and its subsidiaries. Today the leading online distributor for indie films is filmbay.com Though film production companies in other countries have at times achieved and maintained full integration in a manner similar to Hollywood's Big Five, the Hollywood system and style remain uniquely American in character and origin. As such, films produced outside of America are generally qualified as foreign rather than independent.

Distribution globally was enhanced with the introduction of filmbay and has yet to see a slow-down, even in tougher economical times. Presently, all five of the Golden Age majors continue to exist as major Hollywood studio entities through 2009. Their output is still marked by familiar stories and conservative choices in cast and crew.

Sleep Dealer part 1

Film: Sleep Dealer
Directed by Alex Rivera
Mexico (2008)
Science Fiction/Psychological Drama
6 parts/ 85 mins

In Spanish with English subtitles (default)
Please be sure to turn on the CC (closed captions) button to view subtitles.

Synopsis:

"Sleep Dealer" takes place in a near future where Mexico has been walled off from the United States. Hired hands no longer need to physically cross the border to the U.S., they are able to "jack in" to a network of machines via "nodes". Workers plug in and go through the motions in sterile factories while the robotic arms they control are many thousands of miles away. It's the ultimate in off-shoring. The film follows Memo (Luis Fernando Peña), a dreamer yearning to leave the little village of Santa Ana del Rio where he works on a milpa with his father. Memo isn't interested in hearing his father's tales of the old days, when they didn't need to pay for their water at electrified barricades. He just wants to go to the big city -- the one he monitors via an audio hacking device that allows him to crawl frequencies (basically a sci-fi ham radio). One day, Memo's hacking equipment attracts the wrong kind of attention and tragedy strikes, forcing him to leave his village and go to Tijuana, following in the footsteps of so many others.

In 2008, the world will be introduced to a hero for a new generation: Wesley Gibson.

25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut.
Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).
After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.

With wickedly brilliant tutors—including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman)—Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

The Most Dangerous Man in America Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Paper...

The film focuses on Ellberg's release of the Pentagon Papers, the Dept. of Defense history of the Vietnam War, and the impact of their publication in the New York times on the administration of Richard Nixon and the war in Vietnam.

Bruce Lee Tribute | Way to Fall 2010

Bruce Lee (Chinese: 李小龍; pinyin: Lǐ Xiăolóng, born Lee Jun-fan (Chinese: 李振藩; pinyin: Lǐ Zhènfān); 27 November 1940 -- 20 July 1973) was a martial artist, philosopher, actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter, and founder of the Jeet Kune Do martial arts movement. He is considered one of the most influential martial artists of the 20th century, and a cultural icon.[2]

Lee was born in San Francisco, California, to parents of Hong Kong heritage but raised in Hong Kong until his late teens. Upon reaching the age of 18, Lee emigrated to the United States to claim his U.S. Citizenship[3] and receive his higher education. It was during this time he began teaching martial arts, which soon led to film and television roles.

His Hong Kong and Hollywood-produced films elevated the traditional Hong Kong martial arts film to a new level of popularity and acclaim, and sparked a major surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West in the 1970s. The direction and tone of his films changed and influenced martial arts and martial arts films in Hong Kong and the rest of the world as well. He is noted for his roles in five feature-length films, Lo Wei's The Big Boss (1971) and Fist of Fury (1972); Way of the Dragon (1972), directed and written by Lee; Warner Brothers' Enter the Dragon (1973), directed by Robert Clouse, and The Game of Death (1978).

Lee became an iconic figure known throughout the world and remains very popular among Asian people and in particular among the Chinese, as he portrayed Chinese nationalism through his films.[4] While Lee initially trained in Wing Chun, he later rejected well-defined martial art styles, favoring instead to utilize useful techniques from various sources in the spirit of his personal martial arts philosophy he dubbed Jeet Kune Do (The Way of the Intercepting Fist).[5]

Reel Bad Arabs - exposing racist hate - spsyed review

Reel Bad Arabs" (52mins) with Jack Shaheen, exposing racist hate. Hollywood, and even the Indian Bollywood, film and media industry is obsessed with "the three Bs" belly dancers, billionaire sheiks and bombers. In every movie they make, every time an Arab utters the word Allah, and something blows up. This groundbreaking documentary dissects a slanderous aspect of cinematic history that has run virtually unchallenged from the earliest days of silent film to today's biggest Hollywood blockbusters. Reel Bad Arabs exposes a long line of degrading images of Arabs from Bedouin bandits and submissive maidens to sinister sheikhs and gun-wielding "terrorists" along the way offering devastating insights into the origin of these stereotypic images, their development at key points in European and American history, and why they matter so much today as they continue to indoctrinate hate, racism and discrimination against Muslims and Arabs. The images serve to naturalize prejudicial attitudes toward Arabs and Arab culture, in the process reinforcing a narrow view of individual Arabs and the effects of specific US domestic and international policies on their lives. By inspiring critical thinking about the social, political, and basic human consequences of leaving these Hollywood/Bollywood media caricatures unexamined, this informational and educational documentary challenges reasonable viewers to recognise the urgent need for counter-narratives that do justice to the diversity and humanity of Arab people and the reality and richness of Arab history and culture. This groundbreaking documentary dissects a slanderous aspect of Hollywood cinematic history in which Middle Eastern, Arab and Muslim characters have been unfairly, criminally characterised for over one hundred years.

Dr Jack Shaheen, Professor Emeritus of Mass Communication at Southern Illinois University, and a noted media commentator, is a leading scholar of Arab representations in US popular culture. He continues to be a piercing laser of fairness and sanity in pointing out Hollywood's ongoing egregious smearing of Arabs. Shaheen analysed over 1,000 Hollywood films from 1896 to 2004 to expose the hatred against Arabs and Muslims. Only less than seven percent of the films could be considered positive or non-offensive towards Arabs. The only problem is that Shaheen views are outdated from the 1095 Crusades to the oil greed, pretexts for invasion and occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Project for the New American Century (PNAC). Hollywood flicks

This week's new releases kick off with George Clooney carrying the load in The American, a quiet thriller in which he plays a man who knows his way around guns. But there's nothing quiet about the other news releases: Machete & Going the Distance.

"The Militarization of Hollywood": Unlocking "The Hurt Locker"
War Propaganda wins the Academy Award

1. The film did not even hint that the three-man Army elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad operating in Baghdad a year after in the U.S. invasion was engaged in an unjust, illegal war, and thus were participants in what international law defines as a war crime.

Unmentioned is the fact that the war destroyed perhaps a million Iraqi lives, and created over four million refugees. Or that it took Washington's divide-and-conquer policy of exacerbating sectarian religious and ethnic rivalries to produce a stalemate instead of a humiliating defeat for the Pentagon at the hands of up to 25,000 poorly armed, irregular and part-time guerrillas.

The film's odd title, according to the producers, "is soldier vernacular for explosions that send you to the 'hurt locker.'" But in the "collateral damage" of this unnecessary war — the civilian dead and wounded and millions of wrecked lives — has no place in "The Hurt Locker." Only American pain is stored there, not Iraqi.

Actress Milla Jovovich returns as the zombie-fighting heroine Alice. Ali Larter reprises her role as Claire Redfield from “Resident Evil: Extinction.” Spencer Locke, who played K-Mart in “Extinction,” is also set to return. New to the film franchise is leading man Wentworth Miller, who has signed on as Chris Redfield – Claire’s brother and a popular character from the game series. Shawn Roberts will take over the role of Alice’s nemesis Wesker. Boris Kodjoe and Kim Coates have also been cast.
